Seeing or getting yourself surrounded by flowers can give you calmness  and spiritual healing. Yes, you read that right. These gifts of mother nature can easily make you flow into serenity if you just take the time to adore them. Are you wondering about which flowers to grow in your garden? Check out this short list.

 Calendula - These flowers come mostly in yellow and orange. Ironically, the fire-colored blooms help in healing. Cream created from brightly colored calendulas is perfect for treating skin burns and wounds. A plus to this flower is that it is also edible. It will give your salad a kick with its spicy and zesty flavors. When growing calendulas, they prefer a cooler atmosphere. You can care for them indoors. But, always remember that any plant requires the sun for nourishment. It is advised that you place them where they get enough sun and shade.

Dandelion - From its roots to its leaves, dandelions are used to cure various ailments. A round of applause to Mother Nature for creating such wonderful plant. Ancient people use the leaves for curing illnesses. These are perfect for problems with kidneys, gallbladders, and skin among many other ailments. Herbal healers use the roots for detoxification. Surprisingly, it can cure your hangovers. You should probably stack-up on these roots or better yet grow it in your backyard. The dandelions are very adaptive to its environment. It can grow in almost anywhere! These vigorous flowers can also thrive in the summer and winter. You should prepare a well-fertilized and drained soil to grow healthy flowers that could last.

Lotus - The lotus came from China. It has been a used as a traditional healing plant. Say goodbye to diarrhea, high blood sugar, and cholesterol. Like dandelions, the lotus' roots promotes healing. It is used to cure upset tummies. Despite growing in the mud, the lotus flower is tantalizing and even aromatic. The roots are deep into the mud while the leaves and flowers are above water. Growing lotus is an exciting change of gardening technique that will challenge your green thumbs.

Peonies - A cup of peony tea is good for your health. The roots may help with menstrual cramps and muscle pains. These flowers are not only pretty but, they are truly relaxing as it relieves you from bodily pains. Peonies are beauty and value grown in magnificent blooms. You can grow peonies in your garden during the spring or fall season. These blooms require colder weather to grow healthy. They can be nourished in the garden or in pots. Be sure to water them regularly.

Migraines and the Ketogenic Diet

Chronic migraine headaches can totally control your life. The pain can be unbearable, relentless and incredibly overwhelming leaving you depressed, scared and alone most of the time. The good news there are many ways by which you can stop it from oppressing you moving forward. And, one of them is having a ketogenic diet.

A ketogenic diet (keto) is a very low-carb diet, which turns the body into a fat-burning machine. It has many potential benefits for weight loss, health and performance, but also some potential initial side effects. It is similar to other strict low-carb diets, like the Atkins diet or LCHF (low carb, high fat). These diets often end up being ketogenic more or less by accident. The main difference between strict LCHF and keto is that protein is restricted in the latter.

1) Keto decreases migraine frequency. In recent studies, scientists have found that the ketogenic diet significantly reduced the frequency of migraines in 90% of patients. This completely dwarfs the effects of migraine drugs.

2) Keto promotes glutamate inhibition. Glutamate is found in both epilepsy and migraine patients. Medications that work in epilepsy (anti-seizure drugs) also block glutamate production. Four Ways to a Healthy Menopause

Going through menopause can be a struggle. Only few women embrace this stage in their lives without much issues. Three Ways to Quit Smoking Easily

Going cold turkey on smoking can be quite difficult even if you have the biggest reason to do it. Nicotine is highly addictive. This very element makes anyone get back to smoking after several weeks or months of not smoking.

Make a firm decision. Set an exact date when you'll stop smoking. Know why and how you should stop with your addiction. It would be best to do some research first before you start with a full stop to your vice.

Get some support. Inform your family and friends about your decision. Ask them to support and encourage you along the way. You might need the guidance of counselors, physicians and other health professionals. Be sure to keep in touch with them every step of the way.


Have an action plan. Challenges are inevitable. You must be prepared to face them. For example, you must know what to do when your friend smokers drop by your place or when you unintentionally visit places where smoking is rampant. If you're unable to guard yourself against these challenges, you're most likely to give into the temptation of smoking.

By living a smoke-free life, you can be healthier and stronger. Your risk of heart disease and other cancers can decrease by half during the first year you've stopped smoking. Hormonal changes -  Hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, onset of menopause and thyroid problems can cause hair loss.

Alopecia areata - This is also known as patchy hair loss. It occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles causing sudden hair loss. On the other hand, other skin disorders like lichen planus, some types of lupus and sarcoidosis cause permanent hair loss.

Scalp infections - Infections such as ringworm can invade the hair and skin of your scalp. Generally, hair grows back as soon as the infections are treated.

Trichotillomania - This condition happens when a person  has an overwhelming urge to pull out her hair. It can be the hair from her scalp, eyebrows or other areas of the body.

Medications -  Drugs used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure and birth control can cause hair loss. Overdose of vitamin promotes hair loss too.

Other causes - radiation therapy, physical shock like surgery and excessive weight loss, emotional shock like death, hair treatments, excessive hairstyling, etc.

Three Forgotten Food Which Are Great for Your Budget and Health

Eating healthy food can be quite boring and expensive. Because of such experience, many fall away from their health and fitness plans.

In response to this, I researched about affordable food items which are great to incorporate your healthy diet. Below are three food items that suited my goal. (In fact, most of us have forgotten about them because of the surge of healthy recipes that promote their pricier counterparts.)

Cauliflower – This “white food” is a scrumptious addition to your meals - whether raw or cooked. Cauliflowers are raw in calories. They are rich in potassium and folate which fortify a healthy heart.
Celery – Celeries are the go-to-veggies of crash dieters over the years but they provide many health benefits other than weight loss.  Celery was originally a medicinal staple (as far back as Ancient Greece) but can now add plenty of flavor and fiber, as well as some vitamin C and potassium, to your diet.   

Sardine – Eating sardines is one of the best ways to get omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. Sardines are packed with a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D, selenium and calcium. You can bring sardines to work, to school, or wherever you need to go as they usually come in easy open cans.

Wisdom Teeth Removal - When is It Necessary?

Wisdom teeth are the third molars situated at the very back of the mouth on each side of the upper and lower jaw. They are the last pair of teeth to erupt in the gums. They are expected to appear when a person reaches his late teens or early twenties.

While wisdom teeth removal has become a rite of passage into adulthood in recent years, dental experts explain that this may not be needed in some cases.  This dental procedure is advised only when one or all of the following problems are present:

1) Gum problems - Wisdom teeth which erupt partially cause pain and swelling because they push through the gum tissues and jaw bones deep into the mouth. This can lead to the formation of cysts or tumors in the gums and jaw bones.

2) Cavities - Deep pockets often form around wisdom teeth. These areas are hard to clean, so bacteria and food particles are most likely to breed there. Cavities can soon develop in these areas.

3) Sinus problems - Problems with wisdom teeth can affect your sinuses. This can lead to sinus pain, pressure and even congestion.

4) Damage to neighbouring teeth - The infection in the area of the wisdom teeth can pass to the roots of neighbouring teeth. When this happens, the infected teeth must be extracted together with the wisdom teeth.

5) Limited jaw movement - The position of your wisdom teeth can keep you from chewing your food properly. It can also cause you to bite your cheeks often.

6) Teeth alignment - The direction of growth of your wisdom teeth can affect the positioning of your other teeth. As result any type of dental work you've undergone - braces, bridges, crowns, partial dentures, etc. - might turn out to have been ineffective.

Surgery is not recommended when your wisdom teeth are fully erupted, healthy, functioning properly and positioned correctly. Your dentist will know how your wisdom teeth can affect your dental and overall health. So let him check and decide whether they need to be removed or not. Most of us turn to salt whenever to boost the flavor of our dishes. If you're treading the path to a healthier you, salt usage is something you might want to cut off your diet. Mind and Body Balance: Your Key to Good Health

In a holistic perspective, good health cannot simply mean absence of disease or symptoms; rather, it is deemed as a state of optimal well-being and vitality. Engage in daily exercise. Regular exercise has a powerful effect on muscle mass, strength, aerobic capacity, bone density, and cholesterol. Regular exercise also keeps the mind alive and promotes emotional well-being. Harvard University professor John Ratey, M.D. says that exercise sparks the biological changes that increase the brain’s ability to learn, adapt, and perform other cognitive tasks.

Make time for restful sleep. Six to eight hours is required to have a restful sleep each night. Restful sleep allows you to approach stressful situations calmly and positively. Inadequate sleep disrupts the body’s natural balance and weakens our immune system. Furthermore, it causes weight gain, depression, and premature aging process.

Release emotional toxins. Emotional toxins come in the form of unprocessed anger, hurt or disappointment. They contribute to the toxicity level in our body and they need to be eliminated. Identify the things the emotions you want to release. List them down and the strategies by which you can get rid of them effectively. Then, journal personal improvements you acquire in the process.
