Why Avoid Fad Diets

Celebrities and fitness enthusiasts often engage in fad diets in order to lose weight fast. In fact, many find them more rewarding than working out because they can easily shed off the unwanted fats by just ‘following the procedures’.

So, why should you think twice about considering a fad diet? Here are some reasons.

1) Fad diets do not address the real cause of unhealthy weight gain.

Generally, they simply make you lighter for a period of time. There is a big chance that you will go back to your original weight once you’re done with it. Why? It is because you would probably back to your unhealthy eating habits, leaving you with bigger problem – nutritional deficiencies.

2) Fad diets are not personalized and not sustainable.

Imagine what will happen to you if you’re diabetic and you’ll observe intermittent fasting.  You would probably experience hypoglycemia and your bodily functions will suffer for the rest of the day. Moreover, there is a big possibility that you would not be able to sustain fad diet for a long time. For example, taking juices or soups only could result in bingeing after some time.

3) Fad diets are unnecessary.

The human body needs nutrients from different kinds of food in order to function well. Hence, it is important for you to have balanced regular meals daily. Needless to say, you must also avoid taking too much salt, sugar and unhealthy fats to avoid risks of diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer and obesity.

Having a weight loss plan which includes proper diet and exercise is much better than fad diets as they could get you in a traumatic cycle of losing and gaining weight. To avoid health problems when managing your weight, consult your doctor before engaging in any kind of diet.
